Wildlife charity urges MPs not to repeal the ban on foxhunting

Wildlife Aid, the Leatherhead-based charity that promotes respect for nature, is urging MPs on both sides of the House of Commons to vote against any attempt to reintroduce foxhunting.

The Liberal-Conservative Coalition Government is proposing to give MPs the chance to vote on whether or not the ban should be kept. Wildlife Aid founder Simon Cowell MBE said: "I was very disappointed to hear that the new Government is planning to reopen this issue. The Hunting Act 2004 may not be perfect but at least it reduces the scale of animal cruelty and protects at least one species. To repeal this law, as some members of the Coalition Government seem to want, would in my view be a retrograde step.

Lucy's Blog

Lucy KellsI have been a Veterinary Nurse for almost 20 years now, and although I have been lucky enough to have good jobs throughout my career, I always felt that something was missing. My poor husband has spent almost 12 years listening to me whinge about how much I wanted to work with wildlife one day, to help the animals so often overlooked and really try and make a difference for them.  The closest I got was volunteering as an orphan foster carer for Bedfordshire Wildlife Rescue a few years ago.

Administrator Vacancies

Wildlife Aid is looking for volunteer administrators to help with the day to day running of the office.  Office hours are 9am - 5.30pm, Monday to Friday, and a shift could be either a morning (9 - 1), afternoon (1 - 5.30) or a whole day.

The admin office is located in the main hospital so you will have some involvement with the day-to-day hospital activities - answering telephone queries about animals, booking in patients, and assisting the hospital with admin-based jobs.

The main focus of the admin. office is financial - dealing with incoming donations, memberships, adoptions, sales of merchandise and fundraising income.  Anyone interested in applying should have a good grasp of figures, and attention to detail and accuracy is very important.

Please apply initially by sending a covering email and your CV to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or post to

Christine Barrett 1950 - 2009

I had not heard of the name Christine Barrett during the first 40 years of her life; our first contact was in the very late 80’s, when a lady from Cheam filled in an application form to be a volunteer at Wildlife Aid. On the part of the form that asked ‘What is your availability?’ she had written 2hrs a week, every other Tuesday. And that’s where it all began for us…
