Rescue
This unusual situation was a huge surprise to the people that discovered it. On the 26th of January 2026, we were called out to a rescue. Two tawny owls were discovered in a home, one hanging upside down attached to a curtain and one at the top of a chandelier!
The pair came down through the chimney, likely mistaking it for a hollow tree. Both owls obtained damage to their left eyes, occurring from the fall, and one had scratches on its beak.
The chandelier owl (male) was able to fly around however, the curtain owl (female) had her talons stuck in the material and was unable to move. Despite this however, the male remained by her side and did not leave!
Rehabilitation
Both owls were brought into our care and treated for their injuries. They were monitored closely and kept together in an aviary when ready.
Release
Without major injuries, the pair recovered in just over a week. They were released together on the 4th of February 2026 – just in time for Valentines Day!
If you would like to help other owls like these two, please consider adopting an owl today!
