Rescue
In the wild, red foxes typically live for just 1–3 years, so when this distinguished old gentleman arrived at our hospital, he truly surprised us.
Members of the public spotted him wandering with a severely damaged eye and immediately contacted us for help.
Thanks to their quick action, one of our volunteer rescuers was able to safely catch him and bring him into our care, where our veterinary team could assess his injuries and begin treatment.
Rehabilitation
On examination, our vets discovered he was suffering from severe conjunctivitis in his left eye. It was extremely swollen and covered in pus, and at first, the damage looked so extensive that there were concerns he might lose the eye altogether.
Without delay, the team began carefully cleaning the eye and administering treatment to tackle the infection. During his full health assessment, they made another remarkable discovery — this fox was estimated to be at least five years old, an impressive age for a wild red fox.
Release
Thanks to prompt treatment and expert care, his condition improved dramatically within just a few days.
A wonderful outcome for a truly resilient old fox.
Currently, he still remains in care with us but, we are hopeful for him to return to the wild shortly.
If you would like to help this fox and others like him live long, happy lives, please, consider adopting a fox today.
