Rescue

One very grumpy badger.

This badger arrived with us after he had been rescued by our fantastic rescuer, Louis, from the back of a garden shed.

He had sustained a deep, painful wound on his rump that had become extremely infected and required urgent treatment.

The nasty injury was a result of a territorial fight with another badger.

Territorial fighting is extremely common among badgers in spring and can occur for a number of reasons such as competing for mates, food and resources. These fights can cause severe injuries and leave badgers homeless and alone.

Rehabilitation

Luckily for this badger, he was rescued and brought to us where he could be treated for his painful injury.

Our wonderful vets immediately got to work cleaning, disinfecting, debriding and dressing the wound to help clear it up and prevent further infection.

During his time here, he was gently cared for each day. His wound was carefully cleaned and disinfected, over multiple treatments, helping him heal bit by bit.

With every passing day, his strength slowly returned – helped along by plenty of nourishing meals. He developed quite the appetite, and it quickly became clear that chicks were his absolute favourite treat!

Food is definitely something he enjoyed, along with making check-ups extremely difficult for our team!

Release

Despite his grumpy attitude, he made a fantastic recovery. After nearly a month in care, his wounds were fully healed and our vets decided he was ok to be set free and roam, once more!

He was finally released on the 24th March 2026, we wish him all the best on his new journey!
