When Uno arrived, his right eye was swollen completely shut. Immediately, our vets flushed the eye and started him on medication to help reduce the pain and give him the best chance of healing.
However, over the following days, they saw no improvement. His eye was cloudy and he couldn’t see out of it. They decided that the kindest option would be to remove the eye altogether.
Thankfully, Uno’s surgery went extremely well and, afterwards, he was far more comfortable and started to feel like himself again. He made this very clear by running around his pen, causing havoc, like nothing had ever happened.
Not long after, Uno was paired with another lonely cub named Grogu. Grogu arrived in our care suffering from severe mange, something we had never seen in a cub so young. Thankfully, with dedicated treatment and care from our team, he made a full recovery and was soon ready to meet his new companion.
Despite being the same species, Grogu and Uno couldn’t be more different in personality. Grogu is quiet and reserved, while Uno is full of energy and always looking for his next adventure. Much to Grogu’s dismay, Uno wanted to play. All. The. Time.
Fortunately, our team had plans to introduce even more cubs to the group. Now a lively family of seven, each youngster has found companions with similar personalities and play styles, helping them develop the social skills they’ll need as they grow.
The group are much larger now from when they first arrived, and it is great to see them progress into adult foxes who will soon be ready for the wild. To learn more about the amazing red fox, take a look at our fact file page.
