Rescue
This poor gull was hit in the head with a golf ball.
When little Putter arrived, he was wobbly, unsteady and in a great deal of pain. Unfortunately for both Putter and the fateful golfer, Putter was struck in the head, mid-air, by a flying golf ball. The impact was so forceful that he was knocked from the sky but, thankfully, he was kindly brought to WAF for some much-needed help.
This accident had left poor Putter with a nasty wound on his head, a bruised, swollen eyelid and blood in his mouth. He required urgent treatment to survive.
Rehabilitation
Our team was here to help though, and his wounds were carefully cleaned, before he was given medication to help with the bruising and swelling. To keep him warm, comfortable, and feeling safe, he was settled into a cosy incubator with plenty of food to help him through the night.
The following day, little Putter looked like a completely transformed gull! He was much more active, eating well, and his wounds looked like they had begun the healing process. He recovered so well overnight, that our team were extremely hopeful for his release, he just needed to pass the all-important flight test.
Release
Amazingly, just one week after his admission, Putter passed with flying colours! He proved he could walk confidently, navigate around obstacles, fly with ease, and, best of all, his wounds had completely cleared up. He had completely changed from the weak, unsteady gull that first came through our doors to the confident gull he is today. Putter was released shortly after, where he flew into the skies, being sure to avoid golf courses, we hope.
Thanks to the hard work from our dedicated team, little Putter was given a second chance. To know what to do when you come across an animal in need, take a look at our FAQs.
