Rescue

This was one very dramatic tawny.

This handsome owl arrived with us after being struck by a car – something we, sadly, see far too often here at WAF.

Rehabilitation

After a check-up with our vet, Judith, it was clear he wasn’t just putting on a performance (though he’s very good at that). An x-ray revealed a fractured leg, but the good news is it wasn’t a fully open fracture; therefore, it’s the kind that can heal with time, rest, and a rather fancy-sounding ‘Robert Jones’ bandage that will provide temporary support and reduce swelling.

Since then, he’s been perfecting his role as “most hard-done-by patient.” The looks, the posture, the general air of “why me?” – honestly, it’s Oscar-worthy.

All jokes aside, he’s in the best hands and we’re hopeful that with lots of food and care, he’ll be back to doing what tawny owls do best… ruling the night skies.

Release

This tawny is currently still at our hospital whilst his leg heals, we are hopeful for a full recovery.

Although this little character is expected to make a good recovery, his story is a gentle reminder to take extra care on the roads and keep an eye out for wildlife – especially our nocturnal neighbours.
