Rescue
Don't get us wrong, we understand the temptation of wanting to hand-rear orphaned animals you may have stumbled across, but, sadly, there is so much misinformation across the internet, today, that finding the correct guidance on how to care for, feed and rear such animals can be pretty confusing.
Unfortunately, these young mice were our latest victims of the DIY-rehab trend that centres across the UK see all too often. Having found a 'home-made' formula on the internet, the mice were fed a mix that included mayonnaise and corn syrup. Sadly, it was only after one of the siblings passed away that the remaining two were brought to us.
Rehabilitation
Arriving in poor condition, underweight and very dehydrated, the two mice were passed to manager, Alice, with the hopes to pull the pair of them through.
Sadly, the quieter of the two wasn't strong enough to recover from the mayo and corn syrup diet they were inappropriately fed on, but "Syrup", the last remaining sibling of the, originally, three young pups, is coming on in leaps and bounds.
Going through a coat change, having arrived covered in the mix, Syrup is rocking his new look, but it shouldn't take too long before his winter coat is fully through and he's ready for his return to the wild.
With these DIY attempts likely to get worse as inappropriate footage is shared across social media, we beg you to please think of the animal before sharing or engaging with such-content. Let's not take the wild life away from wildlife.
