Rescue

The European hedgehog has just been reclassified as near threatened on the IUCN Red List. After a 30% decline in the last decade, the species is facing an even more uncertain future.

Thankfully picked up, when spotted out during the daylight, this little hoglet was found just in time, but it didn't stop our vet nurse, Kayleigh, from having to battle to save the hoglet's life, because, now, more than ever, every single hedgehog matters.

Rehabilitation

Thanks to Kayleigh, this hog went from needing CPR because of its collapsed and hypothermic state to, just an hour later, awake and, incredibly, tucking into a nice snack!

Weighing just a third of what she should, she is now in the safe-hands of our home carers, being given the best chance possible of a full recovery. Still a little on the small side to survive winter, she'll remain with us until she's bigger and we have nice mild spell in the weather.
