Rescue
Phoenix was brought to us on 1st January 2026 cold, soaked through, and gasping for air — quite literally on the brink of death.
He had been found in a water trough after crashing, and the prolonged exposure had left him suffering from severe hypothermia. We don’t know how long he had been in the water before he was discovered, but by the time he arrived, he was in a critical condition.
Our vet nurse, Kayleigh, immediately began assessing him and began saving his life.
Rehabilitation
Phoenix was quickly placed into an incubator to gently raise his body temperature.
In just one hour, the transformation was incredible. He was brighter, no longer gasping for breath, and even able to stand. As his body continued to warm, the shivering subsided, his feathers began to dry, and before long, his personality started to shine through.
In fact, Phoenix soon became quite feisty — showing Kayleigh plenty of attitude! A sign he was feeling much better.
He remained in our hospital for several weeks, where he was kept warm, well-fed, and closely monitored. Once strong enough, he was moved to an aviary, giving him the space to stretch his wings and rebuild his strength in flight.
Release
On 23rd January, after three weeks in our care, Phoenix was ready to return to the wild — strong, healthy, and free once more.
