Rescue

When little Ronald arrived, he was in shock, dehydrated and incredibly quiet.

At not even a month old, this tiny rat had already survived a life-threatening encounter with a cat.

For animals as small as Ronald, a cat attack can be fatal. The shock, combined with even the smallest wounds, can quickly become life-threatening. That’s why those first few moments are so critical.

Rehabilitation

Our wonderful vet, Judith, did everything she could to keep Ronald calm and comfortable throughout his treatment. Keeping his stress levels as low as possible was vital to his recovery.

He was started on a course of antibiotics before being settled into a warm, safe, quiet enclosure with plenty of food, where he could rest and begin to recover.

Release

Since arriving at Wildlife Aid, Ronald was transformed. The frightened, vulnerable little rat who first came through our doors became bright, active and full of life.

In fact, he recovered so well that he returned to the wild shortly after. Ronald’s story serves as a reminder that even the smallest animals deserve a second chance.
